Today in Audiovisual class,
we watched some camera effects and short animations, among them, the first part
of "UP". I watched it some years ago on T.V. and I couldn't just cry
in the first eight minutes. (I don't really mean it but...)
Produced by Pixar studios,
and promoted by Disney as their first 3D animation, this movie tells about an
old grumpy man, Carl Fredricksen, whose wife has passed away, and has to move
to an old people’s home; but he showed himself and ran away before he could
leave his house, attaching balloons to the roof and flying across the airs to
reach “Paradise Falls”, his and her wife childhood dreamland to settle down
their house till they die. But he didn’t count a little chubby Asian kid
called Russell, a boy scout who was hiding in the porch, with the intention to
help this old man. They arrived after a storm somewhere in South America, so they
had to walk through lands to find Paradise Falls. During the trip, they met
Charles Muntz, Carl’s childhood heroe who was hunting a strange bird species,
which results to be Rusell’s new friend. (Yep, they found the bird first.), and
have to escape from Muntz.
This movie has a very special beginning, which starts with Carl's childhood and how he met Ellie, his neighbor, and how they shared the same dream about Paradise Falls. They fall in love and get married, until things get worse, and there is when I cried. I can't tell if you haven't seen this movie, so if you like Pixar animation, this is a must.
